Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
IPL is a cosmetic treatment that uses light energy to improve the appearance of the skin. It’s often used to address issues like wrinkles, sun spots, and other signs of aging, as well as rosacea and unwanted hair. While similar to laser treatments, IPL uses a broader spectrum of light, allowing it to target multiple skin conditions simultaneously.
How IPL Works
- IPL delivers short, concentrated pulses of light into the skin.
- The light is absorbed by pigments in the skin, such as melanin (in sun spots) or blood vessels (in rosacea).
- This absorption converts the light energy into heat, which breaks down the targeted pigment or blood vessels.
- The heat also stimulates the body’s natural healing process, which can lead to increased collagen production and improved skin tone.
Benefits of IPL
- Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and sun spots.
- Improves skin tone and texture.
- Treats rosacea and redness.
- Helps with unwanted hair removal.
- Can be a gentler alternative to laser treatments with less downtime.
Limitations and Considerations
- IPL may not be effective for all skin types or conditions.
- Multiple treatments are usually required to achieve desired results.
- Potential side effects include redness, swelling, and temporary changes in skin pigmentation.
- IPL is generally considered safe, but it’s important to discuss any concerns with a qualified dermatologist or aesthetician.
What does the IPL laser do?
IPL treatment, or intense pulsed light therapy, is a cosmetic procedure to improve the skin’s texture. The goal is to give your skin a clearer and more even, youthful look. IPL therapy treats a range of skin pigment and blood vessel issues on areas such as your face.
What is better, IPL or microneedling?
Both IPL photo facials and microneedling can improve your skin’s appearance. But if you’re looking for a treatment that’s more effective at treating dark spots and uneven skin tone, has fewer side effects, and is less invasive—then IPL photo facial is the way to go.
Does IPL make you look younger?
By targeting the deeper layers of the skin, IPL promotes collagen production, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, leading to a more youthful complexion. Users often report not just a reduction in wrinkles, but also an improved skin tone and texture, making the skin look and feel younger.

A Diode Laser
Diode laser is a semiconductor device that undergoes stimulating emission to emit coherent light. Laser diodes offer high power for their size and produce electrical-power-efficient laser radiation
Diode laser hair removal is a procedure that uses a laser with a specific wavelength (800-810nm) to permanently reduce hair growth. The laser’s light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, causing the hair follicle to heat up and be destroyed, preventing future hair growth in that area.
Is diode laser good for hair removal?
Yes, the diode laser is good for permanent hair removal, especially for medium to darker skin tones with coarser hair. It can successfully give you permanent hair reduction and a well-groomed body in a few sessions.
Can I shave in between diode laser?
While you can shave between sessions, don’t shave right after one. You need to shave 24-48 hours before the treatment. Immediately after your treatment your skin is likely to be sensitive – if you shave too soon after your session you may irritate the skin.
Fractional Co2 laser – ND YAG Laser
Fractional CO2 laser treatment is a skin resurfacing procedure that uses a laser to create tiny, targeted wounds on the skin, stimulating collagen production and rejuvenating the skin. It’s a popular choice for addressing wrinkles, scars, uneven skin tone, and other skin concerns.
How it works:
Targeted Wounds:
The laser creates a grid of micro-beams on the skin’s surface, leaving surrounding areas intact.
Collagen Stimulation:
This process triggers the body’s natural healing response, which leads to the production of new collagen and elastin, tightening the skin and improving its texture.
Improved Skin Appearance:
Over time, the treated areas show a reduction in wrinkles, scars, and uneven pigmentation, resulting in smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
Benefits
- Reduces Wrinkles and Fine Lines: Effective for treating both superficial and deeper wrinkles.
- Improves Skin Texture and Tone: Enhances skin smoothness and evens out skin tone.
- Minimizes Scars: Reduces the appearance of acne scars and surgical scars.
- Treats Uneven Pigmentation: Addresses sun damage, age spots, and other forms of hyperpigmentation.
- Long-lasting Results: With proper aftercare, the rejuvenated skin can last for years.
Recovery
- Downtime: Recovery time varies depending on the treatment intensity, but it can range from a few days to a few weeks.
- Side Effects: Common side effects include redness, swelling, and flaking.
- Aftercare: Following aftercare instructions, including using sunscreen and moisturizers, is crucial for optimal results and to minimize the risk of complications.
Important Considerations
Consultation:
It’s essential to consult with a qualified therapist to determine if fractional CO2 laser treatment is the right choice for your skin concerns and to understand the potential risks and benefits.
Patch test will be done on darker skin tones
Skin Type:
CO2 lasers are generally best suited for individuals with Fitzpatrick skin types I and III (fair skin).
Multiple Sessions:
Some individuals may require multiple treatment sessions to achieve optimal results.
How long do CO2 fractional laser results last?
After the treatment, you will notice improvements in your skin texture, tone, and appearance. Fine lines, wrinkles, and sunspots noticeably diminish, revealing smoother, younger-looking skin. On average, results from your CO2 laser resurfacing treatment can last between 3 and 5 years.
How much younger does a CO2 laser make you look?
A typical result is an 8-10 year reduction in age appearance when laser treatment on the face is done on a highly effective setting so that a 55 year old may look 46 after treatment and healing is complete. Milder treatments can be done, but are not as effective.
How painful is fractional laser?
This method is surprisingly comfortable. On the flip side, the fractional erbium YAG laser might introduce a bit more of a sting, similar to the sensation of a sunburn, which usually lasts around 24 hours.
Does fractional laser tighten skin?
Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is a proven treatment method for tightening loose skin. The heat introduced from the laser stimulates the skin and encourages the production of additional collagen. The result is skin that appears much closer to its younger state.
What will my face look like after a CO2 laser?
Your skin looks rejuvenated, smoother, and more youthful. If you’ve had laser for scar removal, you will notice a more even skin tone and texture, although treating deep acne scars may require multiple laser sessions.
Is one session of CO2 laser enough?
One or two sessions may suffice if you’re looking for subtle improvements. However, you might need more treatments if you aim for a dramatic transformation or complete resolution of specific skin concerns.
Skin Type: Your skin type and color can influence the sessions
So when clients ask me, how many sessions are required I will only do 2 at most. It depends on skin factors and what we are trying to achieve.
Who is a good candidate for CO2 laser?
Individuals with lines, wrinkles and superficial facial scars (for example, from acne scarring) are often good candidates for C02 Laser Resurfacing. Ideally, candidates will have elastic, non-oily skin and do not have pre-existing health conditions.
